VETERAN FIELDS

NEW VETERAN FARMER PROGRAMS UNDERWAY!

The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition (SLVLFC), Veterans Coalition and the Women Veterans of the SLV, together with Rio Grande Farm Park, Valley Roots Food Hub and Conejos County Clean Water, were recently funded through a Colorado Health Foundation Special Projects Grant. Joined by the Food Bank Network of the SLV – La Puente, Adams State University and SLV veterans, we are creating a unique, cohesive and cooperative community that will generate opportunities for veterans of all eras and all services, and non-veterans alike.

Responsible food production is important to us all! The main goal of Veteran Fields is to offer veterans a different mission, one that will prove to be an invaluable service to our Valley and to our country. Veteran Fields is embracing, involving and training veterans to become the nation’s next generation of farmers, working alongside locals seasoned in various agricultural fields, here in the SLV. Join us in supporting this new mission of Veterans – to produce the food for the nation.

TOGETHER WITH VETERANS

Rural Veteran Suicide Prevention. Over 20 veterans commit suicide every day. The Veterans Coalition of the San Luis Valley (VC-SLV) is working with the following partners to achieve the goal of reducing the number of suicides and offering more resources to those in need of assistance.  Our partners include, but are not limited to: WICHE (Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education), the Denver VAMC (Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center), and MIRECC (Medical Center’s Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research, Education & Clinical Center).  Together we are focusing on community based, rural veteran suicide prevention and outreach.

Please Contact Us if you are a veteran, veteran family member or provider of services to veterans and would like to learn more about TWV.
